Code of Conduct:

The Mother of All Game Jams is a feminist game event organized and hosted by the Significant Play and Research in Games (SPRiG) Lab at the University of New Brunswick, with the mission of creating both an invigorating and inclusive space for people from all walks of life.

The bottom line? We want everyone to have fun, be challenged, be included, and have space to explore without bias or discrimination. This means not only respecting all participants regardless of their race, age, gender, ethnicity, religion, and abilities but encouraging each other in a collaborative and low-stakes environment while learning and creating together.

Participants of this event are expected to be considerate and respectful in their speech and actions and to refrain from demeaning, discriminatory, or harassing behaviour and speech, to both the other participants and the games and other content created during this event. Participants of this event are coming from all levels of experience and walks of life, and may have new or unexpected ways to approach game making that needs to be respected and included, both in practice and language. Whether you are working solo with feedback from facilitators, or joined a group for collaborative fun, communication should be clear, critique should be productive, and respect in conduct is paramount.

Participants are asked to be mindful of your surroundings and fellow participants, to respect the boundaries of all people present (participants, facilitators, volunteers), and conduct themselves appropriately in the presence of minors. Furthermore, participants are expected to be respectful and compassionate to other participants time constraints if they must leave, take frequent breaks, or are unable to participate for the entirety of the jam. Those who are in need of this flexibility are expected to communicate fully with their group members and keep them apprised of any changes.

If conflict occurs and you are unable to resolve the issue with the person who you feel is in violation of this code of conduct, or if for any reason you feel that a participant, facilitator or other individual associated with this event are in violation of this code of conduct, there are two modes of reporting available:

  • An anonymous reporting form is available here: Code of Conduct Reporting Form (Note: this will be monitored by an off-site, arms-length mediator).

  • If you are comfortable doing so and wish to report in-person during the event, please approach the event organizer and UNB faculty member Dr. Lauren Cruikshank.

We are very excited to work with you during this event and see the fruits of your labour in your games, and we are confident that all involved will work to create an exciting and supportive environment. Thank you for adhering to these simple principles to help keep this event open and inclusive for all. Happy jamming!
